Visceral: Episode 17
Why Aging Matters in IBD Research
The GI Research Foundation produced this podcast with a sponsorship from Metro Infusion Center.
In this episode, Tenzin Choden, MD, a board-certified gastroenterologist and clinical researcher at UChicago Medicine, discusses her 2025 Annual Grant Cycle Award–funded study exploring how inflammatory bowel disease uniquely affects older adults. This population represents nearly 30% of people living with IBD and accounts for 10–15% of new diagnoses. We examine both later-life IBD diagnoses and the experience of aging with long-standing disease, highlighting why aging with IBD remains an underserved and rapidly growing area of need. The conversation underscores how research supported by the GI Research Foundation is helping advance more personalized, age-appropriate care for older adults living with IBD.
