Kirsner, in recognition of his service to the United States during World War II and his contributions to the medical field, particularly gastroenterology.

On Friday, May 24, The U.S. House of Representatives introduced H.R. 8542 calling on Congress to award a Congressional Gold Medal to Dr. Joseph B. Kirsner, in recognition of his service to the United States during World War II and his contributions to the medical field, particularly gastroenterology.

The Congressional Gold Medal, the oldest and highest civilian award in the U.S. along with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, is bestowed by Congress to honor distinguished achievements and contributions.
