On Monday, September 27th, nearly 200 patients, doctors, friends, and celebrity athletes joined the GI Research Foundation for the inaugural Larry A. Pogofsky All-Star Challenge – On the Greens at Bryn Mawr Country Club in Lincolnwood, Illinois. The charity golf tournament raised more than $181,000 for digestive diseases research at the University of Chicago Medicine.

Each foursome was joined by a celebrity golfer. Thank you to all-stars Adam Greenberg, Adam Russell, Carl Everett, Carlos Zambrano, Cliff Floyd, Fergie Jenkins, Frank Thomas, Frank Winters, Freddy Garcia, Gordon Beckham, Jerry Azumah, Joe Crede, Katie Kearney, Lance Briggs, Marcus Allen, Ozzie Guillen, Ray Burris, Richard Dent, Ryan Cabrera, Ryan Dempster, Toni Kukoc, Willie Gault, and Willie Harris for donating their time and talent!

Thank you also to Brittney Palmer, artist and entertainer, for her paintings of sports legends Fergie Jenkins and Jermaine Dye. Limited-edition signed “Baseball Cards” featuring the paintings were sold during the event (with some still available!).

After the round, golfers and their guests enjoyed heavy appetizers, cocktails, a live and silent auction, and music by the Gold Coast All Stars.

The Larry A. Pogofsky All-Star Challenge historically features a celebrity softball game, home run derby, and kids’ baseball clinic with Chicago’s biggest sports legends. This year’s event is moved to “the greens” due to the uncertainty surrounding the Pandemic.  Larry A. Pogofsky was a die-hard baseball fan who was also passionate about healthcare research thanks to a life-changing experience at the University of Chicago Medicine Digestive Diseases Center. The GI Research Foundation is proud to present the All-Star Challenge, honoring Larry’s love for sports and continuing his legacy of funding important medical research. Thank you to all of our generous sponsors and guests who made it such an exciting and impactful event.
