Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie

Back-to-school calls for better breakfasts, and the humble smoothie is a great option for warm early fall days. For patients with digestive diseases, bananas and oats are easy-to-digest prebiotic and probiotic foods containing soluble fiber, while peanut butter or peanut butter powder adds protein and flavor. A touch of honey (also a probiotic!) sweetens the mix. This kid-friendly recipe takes just minutes to prepare, and is adapted from the IBD-aid (anti-inflammatory) diet.

Ingredients:

2 ripe bananas, peeled and broken into 2-inch chunks, and frozen

1/2 c. milk (oat milk, nut milk or dairy milk, as preferred)

2 T. cooked oats (steel-cut or old-fashioned)

2 T. peanut butter/peanut butter powder

1 T. raw honey

Dash of cinnamon or nutmeg (optional)

Recipe

  1. Blend all ingredients in a food processor or blender until very smooth, adding water to thin as needed. Serve immediately.
