Pioneering New Ways to Heal the Gut and Restore GI Health

The GI Research Foundation has joined with UChicago Medicine to launch a new research funding program in support of Regenerative Medicine for Digestive Diseases (RMDD).

This exciting field focuses on repairing, regrowing, or replacing damaged tissues and organs in the digestive system. Unlike traditional drug treatments, regenerative medicine works with the body’s natural healing processes—offering the potential for long-term relief with fewer side effects. Funds raised will help identify and support groundbreaking research projects that push this promising area of medicine forward.

Through our partnership with UChicago Medicine and with scientific leadership from Dr. Cambrian Liu, Dr. David Rubin, and Dr. Eugene Chang, the GI Research Foundation is uniquely positioned to apply concepts from regenerative medicine to advance knowledge and use its grantmaking muscle to improve the quality of life for patients with gastrointestinal disorders. New philanthropy will capitalize on the strengths of each organization.

With a matching challenge of up to $500,000 from an anonymous donor, dollars can go further, allowing us to fund the first of many research projects in this novel area of science just beginning to be applied to digestive diseases.
