UChicago Medicine’s section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition is looking for volunteers for a research study involving daily rhythms, diet, sleep, and intestinal bacteria.
They are searching for participants who have had their colons removed due to ulcerative colitis with ileostomies who are not obese. They believe intestinal bacteria exhibit daily rhythms, which are sensitive to diet and influence blood sugar regulation. To better understand this, the section is conducting research studies that involve:
- Tests to check for eligibility, including blood draws, questions about participant’s health, and an overnight sleep study
- 7 days of at-home wrist actigraphy monitoring
- 2 sessions of a 48-hour stay in the research unit
- A 7-day diet intervention session
- Testing includes: sleep recording, blood pressure monitoring, sugar tolerance test, hormone measurements in participant’s blood, questionnaires of mood, symptoms, appetite and sleep
- Multiple collections of intestinal contents from the stoma or ileostomy bag
Up to $1,250 will be compensated for completing the entire study.
If you are healthy, aged 19-40, normal weight, a non-smoker, and are interested in learning more about this study, please call: (773)-702-6458.
